EAA Aviation Center, Oshkosh, Wis. – April 17, 2007 – You’ll likely learn many things if you attend the EAA Air Academy this summer -- like aeromodeling, rocketry, and even aircraft construction and restoration – plus get a chance to go flying!
But the most important lesson may be discovering that you’re not alone. That is you’re not the only one your age who lives and breathes aviation.
The EAA Air Academy is a fun aviation camp for you if you are between the ages of 12 and 18. Since 1984, experienced instructors and dedicated staff have shared their knowledge and lore of aviation through hands-on workshop, classroom, and outdoor experiences.
Some campers are very knowledgeable about flight when they arrive at camp; others know little.
“What sets our camp apart is that EAA is the leader of recreational aviation,” said Bob Campbell, director of museum and resident education. “We allow kids ages 12-18 to explore aviation through technical and learning classrooms and hands-on experiences that give them life skills they can apply to their daily lives.”
A dedicated group of instructors share one common thread — they all love aviation and love to share their knowledge. “All of our shop instructors are volunteers with over 200 years of combined experience,” Campbell said. “Plus we have a great mix of mature college-age students who live and work with the campers on a day-to-day basis.”
One of the most enjoyed activities is taking an actual flight in an airplane. Four college-aged students, who are also Certified Flight Instructors, provide the flight experiences.

EAA Air Academy at a Glance
EAA Young Eagles Camp
- Ages 12 and 13
- Session 1: July 8 – July 12, 2007
- Session 2: August 6 – August 10, 2007
- Fee: $650 for non-EAA member or $600 for EAA member or EAA membership in immediate family.
- This new program will use small group activities and close counselor relationships to present the basics of flight in a "science camp" format that is a unique combination of fun and discovery.
EAA Basic Air Academy
- Ages 14 - 15
- Session 1: June 14 – June 19, 2007
- Session 2: June 21 – June 26, 2007
- Session 3: June 28 – July 3, 2007
- Fee: $850 for non-EAA members or $800 for EAA member or EAA membership in immediate family.
- The EAA Basic Air Academy is the next step through the world of aviation. Each "hands-on" activity is developed during a classroom and media presentation, specialized laboratory activities and aviation-related demonstrations.
EAA Advanced Air Academy
- Ages 16 – 18
- Session 1: July 16 – July 25, 2007
- (Session is currently filled)
- Fee: $1,050 for non-EAA member or $1,000 for EAA member, or EAA membership in immediate family
- Session 2: July 27 - August 4, 2007
- Fee: $950 for non-EAA member or $900 for EAA member, or EAA membership in immediate family.
- Students will become totally immersed in the world of flight with “in-the-air” and “on-the-ground” experiences, as well as access to forums, the flightline and more during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2006.
